MESSAGE FROM THE SHERIFF
A COMMITMENT TO SERVICE, SAFETY, AND TRUST
Hello, Washington County.
As we reflect on the work of the past year and look ahead,
I want to take a moment to share what continues to guide
the Washington County Sheriff’s Office: our commitment
to serving people with professionalism, compassion, and
accountability — no matter where they live or how they
come into contact with us.
Every day, our deputies, professional staff, and volunteers
serve this community in countless ways. They respond
to emergencies, support people in crisis, operate the
county’s only jail, provide court security, assist those who
are lost or injured through search and rescue, and work
behind the scenes in numerous roles to maintain essential
community safety. This work often happens out of public
view, but its impact is felt across all of Washington County.
Public safety today is complex and constantly evolving.
It requires more than enforcement alone — it demands
thoughtful leadership, well-trained professionals, and the
right tools to respond safely and effectively. Over the past
year, we have continued investing in training, wellness,
and modern technology that help our teams do their
jobs with care and consistency. These investments
support safer interactions, stronger accountability, and
better outcomes for the people we serve.
In 2025, Washington County voters reaffirmed their
support for public safety by passing the Public Safety
Levy. I am deeply grateful for that trust. This support
allows us to sustain essential services, strengthen
staffing at the jail and on patrol, expand mental health
response, and maintain the infrastructure necessary
to meet our community’s needs. We do not take this
responsibility lightly, and we are committed to being
careful, transparent stewards of these resources.
I also want to reaffirm a fundamental aspect of our role.
Our mission is to help people, all people. When someone
calls the Sheriff’s Office, whether to report a crime,
seek help in a crisis, or ask for assistance navigating a
difficult situation, our focus is safety, dignity, and respect.
Everyone in Washington County deserves to feel
comfortable reaching out when they need help, and this
principle remains at the heart of our work.
“Our mission is to help people, all people.
When someone calls the Sheriff’s Office,
whether to report a crime, seek help in
a crisis, or ask for assistance navigating
a difficult situation, our focus is safety,
dignity, and respect.”
As we move forward, our focus remains clear: supporting
our employees, strengthening community trust, and
continuing to adapt to meet the demands of a growing
and diverse county. We will keep listening, learning, and
working in partnership with the communities we serve.
On behalf of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, thank
you for your continued trust and support. It is an honor to
serve this community.
